Dogs killed with poison

Pet owners warned after three animals die from eating deadly bait left at popular walking spot

A Dubai family who have seen three of their dogs poisoned to death within months today called their killer “callous” and “selfish”. The Hynes family spoke after losing a Doberman-cross and two spaniels to poisoning at a popular walking area in Nad Al Sheba. Joy Hynes has found seven plates of poison in the area since losing her dogs.

“Someone is deliberately killing off dogs. The poison looks like chocolate, it’s lucky it wasn’t a child who found them first,” she said. The family, who live near Safa Park, drove their dogs to Nad Al Sheba because of its natural beauty and open spaces. “We now have only one dog remaining, and this grief cannot be felt by anyone else,” said Joy’s 18-year-old daughter, Charlie. Charlie spoke just days after losing her Doberman-mix, Harry.
“We rescued Harry as a desert dog when he was four months old and I was nine. I am now 18 and cannot begin to think what home will be like without my dog. This is not just one isolated incident in one isolated place, so who knows where else this poison is being used,” she said.
Charlie described Harry as “a softie” who was sometimes chased by cats. He was the third dog the family has lost. The first, Poppy, was poisoned in June and died after being rushed to Dubai Veterinary Hospital for treatment.

The other dog, Cocoa, a spaniel/poodle cross, was poisoned on December 8. Records given to the family by the Al Barsha Veterinary Clinic show that Cocoa suffered severe poisoning. The clinic tried desperately to save the dog but recommended euthanasia after three days. “There are two adults and four children in our family and all three of these dogs were special to us,” said Charlie’s sister, Tiany. “These dogs were ripped out of this world by some selfish human being. We are still thankful to have Cocoa’s brother, Otto, who is very happy but quite lonely,” she said. “He has had to see his sister and his best friend die.”

Adil Al Badri, Head of the Stray Animals Control Unit, said the municipality did not lay out poison to kill dogs and cats. “We don’t do it and we tell businesses and individuals not to do this,” he said. He added that he was not aware of the Hynes case, but said nobody should lay down any poisons without notifying the municipality first.

JEEEZ THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMPLICATED DEBATE NOW. A.A.ALI JUST AIRED HIS COMMON VIEWS , HE MEANS NO HARM TO ANY LIVIVG CREATURE, ETC.

There are major problems and crimes committed daily in UK and europe too but I dont find people who look to bashing a faith or bringing up a certain theory to explain them. I think its sad what happened to your dogs A A Ali but dont let it make you paranoid and twist your logic. If the middle east is so dangerous for dogs I wouldnt purposely bring my dog here and put my dog through it if I had one, knowing that it is not safe, as you claim you knew. Jade- I understand his intentions might be good but the logic and argument is simply wrong and the truth has to be told.

Personally, i have a fear of dogs - especially large ones whose owners allow them off the leash even in a compound, also the owners/maids who walk them and do not scoop the poop, however i would never encourage any form of cruelty to any animal, but some are just born without a heart and conscience, and boredom also creates the devils work! Errol - is that all you can say???

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 9 : 19 PM]

Ha ha ha - Ax & JD - no wonder despite all the money spent by Arab Countries to improve their infrastructures and image they are still in 3rd world category. I now understand they must be surrounded by khali wali mentality like yours holding their progress towards a better future for all. 'Islam permits having dog for protection' looks like its the poor dogs who need protection.

aaali..worked so hard and took away the attention from the drastic horrible situation of the poisoned dogs...well done ali..

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 6 : 44 PM]

What about my turtle...forget the dog!! Where is Pamela Anderson now...lol!

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 5 : 44 PM]

Regarding what JD just said about "walk the walk" etc...i see Mr Errol de Souza can only bow wow wow (bark the bark) in this subject :-)

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 5 : 23 PM]

First let's cry for the dog, second there are two kind of people, type one who likes to talk and talk, type two who likes to walk to walk (they likes to take an action and not to talk a lot like some others), I'm sorry to hear about the turtle …

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 4 : 18 PM]

so u lived in the UK & Europe at the same time??? in ur earlier posts u said uve been here for 18 years (what autopsy was that then?) I thought u also mentioned they got poisoned from a piece of meat thrown over ur villas wall...!! ur twisted man & u love showing off & u've experienced everything & uve done it all ...LOL i feel bad for u.

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 3 : 09 PM]

Come on people, A.A.Ali is just trying to point out reasons for these heartless killings..no these reasons may not be fair to our thinking but it is nonetheless and unfortunately fact. Without these, what else is there think?

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 2 : 42 PM]

dubai - point I am making is that my dogs were okay where we live in UK and Europe and expected they would have long life. I did expect to lose them to poison within two years of shipping them here. This problem is across the whole of Middle East - not just in Dubai. You explain to us why then? And since I asked for autopsy - I can tell you that this particular poison isnt native to ME but derived from a plant that produces a type of Arsenic that cannot be traced in the blood stream.

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 2 : 20 PM]

Dubai, good one ..hahaha..I'm curious to read aaali's explanation..

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 1 : 59 PM]

JD- I think your comment is inappropriate. Killing of an animal is something that we shouldnt walk away from. and Why shouldnt people talk about it? You cant stop these kind of criminal actions by closing your eyes and walking away. You have to deal with it and talking is the first step to dealing with it!

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 1 : 13 PM]

slash- Im very sorry to hear that. A A Ali explain that one! ;)

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 1 : 05 PM]

A A Ali why are you bringing effigies into this for? Your preconcieved notions and stereotypes are not an excuse for hiding your ignorance and justifying the bashing of a faith. Dont blame other people for flaws and shortcomings in your own comments and logic. Lets go back to the topic shall we? If a person doesnt want a dog in thier home due to their beliefs that does not equate to thinking that poisoning or killing someone elses dog is ok. Lets not twist things. I think you should find other productive things to do rather than sharing every thought that comes into your head with 7days. I agree with some of your comments on other threads but youre comments are seriously misguided and lacking any basis on this one.

Someone poisoned my turtle...

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 12 : 25 PM]

aaali, read what you wrote..hahaha..I can't believe ur denying what is clearly written up there..ignorance is a bliss no doubt..no need to look further as you are drained in ignorance..May God cure your soul..

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 11 : 58 AM]

BoogieMonsta lets not mention God or Faith in future as people out here get very volitile about this subject - cant afford to buy another box of effigies to distribute for the bonfire. Suffice to know that I have been exposed to all faiths, theologies and doctrines and am neutral.

BOW WOW, WOOF WOOF

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 11 : 00 AM]

sue - two of my Great Danes were poisoned within my villa walls by someone throwing poisoned meat over the walls during the night. My third Great Dane was lying on pavement by wall of my villa when a 4 wheel car drove over him and crushed his back leg. I had to have him put down. Ancient x and Dubai - I didnt say hadiths condones these acts but said some people may view this statement as meaning it is best not to have dogs in their homes. And I have seen people throw stones to get them away from them. Chinese, Filipinos and certain other countries eat certain types of dogs as delicacies. Ancient X when I read your tirades I get the impression ignorance is bliss. Thank you dgallagher and you are correct. And by the way even in JAFZA guard dogs have been poisoned by the unknown.

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 10 : 47 AM]

sue, animale lover, get a life

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 10 : 07 AM]

Ancient X and Boogiemansta, you are absolutely right. A A Ali has no care with animals as per the comments he posted. So A A Ali and JD, better for you guys to shut up, this is animal lovers opinion and we don't want any single comment from you.

Posted by: anonymous [16.Mar.09 9 : 20 AM]

A.a.A Ali, what none sense are u uttering, what societies & cultures are you talking about?? Islam forbids having a dog at home because it is unclean however Islam permits having a dog for protection & hunting though it must live outside of the area that you sleep in, eat and pray (to be more precise in your house). Why don’t you share with us the genuine source that says that the dog is seen as a devil?

As an advice you should learn how to keep to yourself and not comment on everything that you are not sure about. With your above comments you have pin pointed and made indirect accuses to some ethnics and sects. How come you always act as if you know it all? It is okay if you are seen less smart by the outside world from the smartness that you think you float with.

From now on I think it would be more beneficial to represent and talk on the behalf of yourself only and not on the behalf all and whatever else nationalities you squeeze yourself in acting you know it all, you know quite a bit but plenty you don’t know.

Torturing animals or hurting them without a reason is against the muslim faith completely. In fact we are taught to treat animals with respect and kindness. There are examples in the islamic teachings of a woman who treated her cat badly and so she will be punished by god for this and there is the example of the man who was admonished by the prophet (saw)for overburdening his camel. I understand that A Ali is trying to think about why these people are doing what they are doing and trying to understand the reasons behind these criminal acts but I just wanted to clarify that no hadith condones this behaviour. Tanb I agree that we should educate and have tough legal measure to deal with this sort of malicious crimes. Children and adults should be educated about this and the children that carry out these crimes do it out of malice or ignorance, NOT out of religious belief! I cant believe what the world is coming to and we have to teach people in schools that they should have compassion and empathy. This is the parents job! and why dont the parents know what their kids are up to? Are the parents busy neglecting their kids and relying on schools and maids to teach them everything and keep an eye on them? Parents wake up!

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 10 : 51 PM]

BoogieMonsta - We are all his creations infact as far as I am concern everything is his creation incl the universe and all in them. All faiths teach us to respect every part of his creation for each has been created for a purpose. Saying that how many people really obey the ten commandments or any religious tenets laid down for us. How many people abuse these same laws in their fanatical quest to enforce their own personal interpretations or agendas on the rest of us. But animal cruelty is not exclusive - just watch on animal planet and see how wide spread it is - unneccessary and sickening. But dog poisoning is quite comman out here and the first time I came across it was back in 1996 in Jum 2 - herbal and exclusive to a particular country ???

my god would againnn ask me if i'm a vegetarian.

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 9 : 08 PM]

they killed the dog so what, i think everyone here like to talk and never walk, STOP TALK and start to walk, get a life

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 6 : 09 PM]

I don't want to put words into Mr. Ali's mouth, but I don't think he's personally advocating this. All he's doing is pointing out that in a place like Dubai where there are many different cultures, creeds and nationalities living side by side, not everyone holds animals in the same high regard as the Hynes family. Some people love dogs; others see them as evil.

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 5 : 21 PM]

AA Ali...as ive said before i appreciate your views but you have now opened a can of worms for me.... Let me ask you a question, I have a strong belief that my God is your God too and our God would not accept cruelty to animals.....what can you say?

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 5 : 08 PM]

These people should also get a punishment just like what they did with these dogs. God knows every little thing we are doing, even what we are thinking. For those who are responsible for doing cruelties to dogs and to other animals, especially in China (skinning them alive for their fur), if you thought that you were able to escape from the punishment of the law, for sure, you will suffer the consequences in your life after death. Just always think of KARMA.

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 4 : 39 PM]

I think it goes down to basic human compassion. There's a thin line between respecting cultures and the insticnt intervene. But just because a person is brought up with certain superstitions or beliefs does not mean they can not break free out of the mold and trust their own sense of humanity.

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 3 : 27 PM]

These dogs never harmed the people who are intending to harm them, then why are they at the receiving end of all this madness!

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 3 : 00 PM]

Jade - what a haunting reply - is it human nature or human nurture or is it both depending on our environment or social influences that shape our psych. Yes it is sad - as since the world has become multi cultural we are being exposed to unbelievable cruelties being perpetrated on others within their societies.

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 2 : 58 PM]

You got a point there..its human nature to be cruel I guess...how sad.

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 1 : 52 PM]

ryanshorn - alot of the people out here come from societies where any perceived insult to their honour or family honour by any female members of their family can result in death of the poor girl or woman, at the hands of father, brother, husband, uncle etc. So you think they would have compassion for an animal whom they perceive as the devils creature???

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 1 : 45 PM]

Jade I agree with you but at the end of the day we need to address the mentality behind the people who committ these acts. If people are killing Albino's for their body parts and these are human beings - imagine what they think of animals.

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 1 : 24 PM]

A.A. Ali----You have lost the plot yet again. They are living loyal animals and dont deserve it...

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 1 : 18 PM]

Fair enough A.A.Ali but dislike and fear is not a good enough reason to kill and torture animals. They are living creatures regardless of what people might think of them due to religion or superstition.

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 12 : 21 PM]

Majority of the population have dislike and fear of dogs out here - well not just here but across ME, Asia and Africa. You dont see many of these nationalities keeping dogs as pets - some for religious reasons and others out of fear as some consider dogs as the devils creature. Also the use of them in horror films and media coverage of savage attacks hasnt help dispel the myths. Infact in the hadiths it is mentioned that Angels never visit a house with a dog.

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 12 : 06 PM]

My heart goes out to the Hynes family; barbaric acts of cruelty and torture on innocent animals will continue to happen unless there are much harsher penalties, we hear about this everyday (a friend of mine rescued a tiny kitten that was being mistreated by young Arab boys near the Mazaya Centre – I shan’t go into the details, but the kitten is now safe as the always wonderful Feline Friends managed to find her a home) this is, I am sad to say, a tale that we have all heard and can probably all tell. I know that a lot of cultures view animals differently, however the basic principle of ‘right and wrong’ should be universal, not based upon religion or nationality. Maybe education is the key; after all education should not only be about Maths, English, History, etc, it should also teach children the basic life skills of humaneness, empathy, decency, that all life is precious and not simply theirs to kick around and mistreat as they wish. If it is an adult, I personally would like to see ‘an eye for an eye’, but if not, then longer jail terms, naming and shaming and hefty fines, if it is a child then they should do community service.

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 11 : 52 AM]

I so wish i caught the person doing this...i would torture them with methods seen in 24 and other type shows. You are a coward and your day will come! i just wish i was there to see it myself or inflict pain on these people.

Posted by: anonymous [15.Mar.09 11 : 43 AM]

How can someone do this to innnocent animals? They are such faithful beings. What can this person acquire by killing these dogs?
