Ancient X – This is not about badly behaved Brits it is about your obvious and deep hatred for British people as a whole, you waste no opportunity to continually have a go at us and I for one will not stop countering your comments for as long as 7 days allows me to. For the most part I will not stoop to calling people ‘spastic’, my brother is severely disabled and I find your ill advised comments to be highly offensive as I do you as a whole. You have no idea of who I am so how are you frustrated at not being able to show people what ‘I really am’. Ref downgrading local people, please show me where I have done this and equally where I have been chauvinistic. The term ‘spastic’ as an insult is normally reserved for the mouths of those of a young age who are unable to comprehend its true meaning which rather contradicts your lofty tag of Ancient X.

Sigh...Bad Apples it is. I moved here with my husband and kids from the UK many years ago. Let's face it we did it for a better quality of life and yes the UK is not as safe as Dubai and the "Chavs" have taken over. But what suprises me is that now they have found their way across and are now an eyesore for many a law-abiding Brit. I am not making any excuses but there is no way to stop them. We stopped our family friday brunches for commonly known reasons that even makes us hang our head in shame at our countrymen and women. Any action is only right in that it weeds out those that have no respect for the law. I personally have come across many who have a total disregard in the way they dress, talk and even their attitude is one of "I'd give a flying ...." We don't need to be hypocritical (as some in this thread clearly are) and without pointing fingers at any other nationality, need to take heed and warn our near and dear of the concequences of coming to the UAE and openly flaunting an English mentality, as the results of not abiding by the law are out for all to see by our OWN British Foreign Office. Perhaps as a warning of testing the ties of the local friendly hospitality...

As I have said all along I have merely defended against blatant racism towards my fellow Brits, this has come from the very nationalities that you have mentioned, have you seen some of the posts here?! Well, people here will not leave a chance to bad mouth Dubai. This report is not from Dubai authority, it is from British Foreign Office. To A A Ali, you really get excited when talking bad about Dubai. You claim you are here in Dubai for long time. I wonder why, if Dubai is as bad as u claim why dont u go back to where u come from. GTP I think you hit the nail home regarding bad press in UK. But in all fairness the UK press had only exposes the fallacy of this so claimed utopia according to their own publicity machine re the perfect, the best, the biggest, the tallest etc. and MonkeyAllen I too am confused about the alcohol law - why sell it and then it is illegal to consume it. Then we have the dont drink and drive but you use the taxi and the driver takes you to the police station where they give you compulsory lodging for the night. Baffling right.

In I also recall reading a study a while ago that Europeans in general are the most law abiding residents of all in UAE.

It seems like everyone here has misunderstood the article, even those who are english. The article mentions numbers from the British Foreign office showing that UAE is the country where brits are most arrested, there are no evidence that brits are arrested more then other nationalities.

The Last statistics that I read concerning the population of British ex-pats in the UAE was in the range of 120.000 so 294 out of 120.000, results in a very small percentage of people arrested. Pinoy Henyo if the CROWN fits why not wear it, envy will get you nowhere in life. Ancient x how can we make people look like barbarians if the shoe fits well…enough said! Tweety any country in the world should be very concerned about allowing South Africans to visit when you look at the crime stats from your country... 150 rapes a day and these are only the ones that have been reported to the police as most victims do not bother reporting crimes as the police are incompetent or are just apathetic to the victims.

I think the British should not be stereotyped just because a number of them have been wrong. But again this is the media, all arabs and muslims are stereotyped as terrorist now all the British will be stereotyped as drunkards and vulgar. The media today tries hard to create sectors between humans and races. And honestly they are doing a good job!

Firstly - the report says most likely to be arrested in UAE which means other countries have given up giving them free accomodation and free meals in jails cause it almost bankrupt them. Saying that I have met many decent Brits too but it seems that the media would like to highlight on the behaviour of the few bad or rotten apples for sensationalisms sake. But statistically are they the highest numbers of arrest in UAE as far as natioalities go? - I dont think so but maybe 7 Days could find out for us.

One of the things that isn't mentioned here is that the majority of Britons arrested are transit passengers who tend to be caught out by the UAE's surprising drugs laws. You can be jailed here for carrying anti-depressants or even painkillers that in the UK are freely available over the counter. But hey, since everyone here seems quite happy to say that because a few examples of one group are bad means EVERYONE in the group is, can we know safely accept the whole SRK/Muslim thing as being perfectly acceptable?

And the best part is - this study was not done by any independent source. This was the British Foregin Office - so anyone should take it up with them.

I am English and I can tell you that there are a lot of white-trash coming from my country to the UAE. Accordingly we end up with the behaviour described on these pages. From my experience of dealing with such people in a business environment, they are clearly under-qualified to do their job. But lets not judge all English the same, the majority are many kind, honest, respectful, professional and law abiding people who add value to the UAE economy and society.

@MonkeyAllen, go to Spain, go to Thailand, go to places in the Caribbean... It's always the British who are the loudest, the most drunk and most fighting. It's not just in Dubai. And the problem is definately alcohol im masses. They don't know, when it's enough.

From what I've seen Saudi's can handle their booze..Brits can't..They binge from here, blossom up from there & become clowns everywhere...Lets stick to this topic now setting aside any deviation from the subject, after all brits are good at doing that!

The sad part is that Britons dont need a visa to enter the UAE - they are issued one by default on arrival - We South Africans - who behave ourselves most of the time - have to apply for visas and face heavy questioning when we come into the UAE - doesnt make sense..

It would seem to me that most Brits here caught out are either newbies or tourists, SO more should be done to inform them of restrictions, but hey! maybe no one does, why? because its all about packing them in to hotels and getting the money!.
