Robin Van Persie's injury will force Arsenal into the January transfer market, Arsene Wenger has admitted.
Initially the Gunners boss had no intention of adding to his squad. But the revelation that the Dutch striker is sidelined for up to five months has forced the Frenchman’s hand.
“I didn’t feel we were in the need to buy anybody but we will be out on the market that is for sure now,” Wenger said.
“However we will only make a decision if it suits us.”
Arsenal lie fourth in the Premier League, 11 points behind table-toppers Chelsea, although with a game in hand, after losing to the Blues 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend.
The Dutchman, who had scored eight goals in his last 11 matches for Arsenal, was injured in a friendly between Netherlands and Italy last month.
The North London club have also lost England under-21 fullback Kieran Gibbs for three months after he broke a bone in his left foot last month, while Danish forward Nicklas Bendtner is recovering from groin surgery.
Jurgen Klinsmann's ten-month stint as Bayern Munich boss has put him off ever taking another job in the Bundesliga.
The former German national team coach revealed he now has no desire to dive back into coaching in his homeland following his failed tenure in charge of the Bavarian giants.
“For us it is relatively clear. We will not embark on another adventure in the Bundesliga,” Klinsmann said. “After the World Cup, I will possibly be somewhere else.”
Klinsmann joined Bayern in July 2008 but was axed in April.
When asked about renewed speculation naming him as a possible replacement for Rafael Benitez as Liverpool boss, Klinsmann said: “There are always rumours.”
